Sunday killings
Around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 29, police were called to a home in the 0 to 100 block of Kincora Grove N.W.
Officers found a man in his 70s deceased.
As police investigated, a second victim, a woman in her 30s, was found dead in a home at 11:15 p.m. in the 300 block of Tuscany Ridge Heights N.W.
"Right now, the timeline is unclear," said Insp. Lee Wayne of the CPS major crimes unit.
"The CPS were called to Kincora at 21:30 last night—so 9:30 p.m.—where we found one of the deceased—the male deceased—and then we subsequently went to an address in Tuscany where there were additional concerns raised by family members, and that's where we found the female deceased.
"But as far as the timeline or the order of those events, we don't know—it's still under investigation."
Emergency alert
Around 12:15 p.m Monday., an Alberta Emergency Alert was sent out about "a dangerous man with a firearm" in northwest Calgary and Bearspaw, a community just outside city limits.
The alert identified the suspect as Benedict Kaminski, 38.
Wayne said Kaminski "wasn't known to police in the past."
"He's got no previous convictions," Wayne said.
In a news release, police said Kaminski was believed to be somewhere in northwest Calgary or Bearspaw and asked all residents in those communities to be on alert.
Police said both deaths are believed to be targeted and domestic in nature.
"We do very much think this was a targeted incident, but we go through a risk-assessment process at every stage of the investigation, and once we start to see certain behaviours or concerns get raised, we then look toward utilizing the public's help and alerting the public potentially to risks," Wayne said.
"And really, we're stronger together, as far as utilizing the public to help us in this investigation.
"The motive behind the killings is unknown at the current time, but there is that domestic connection between the suspect that we have and the victims."
Police said autopsies for both victims will take place on Friday, Jan.3.
