A Calgary man accused of murdering his stepdaughter faced a judge for the first time Monday.
45-year old Bradley Wade Rietze appeared briefly via video conference and told the judge he's looking for a lawyer.
Rietze is charged with first degree murder.
He's accused of killing his 17-year-old stepdaughter Brittney McInnes in the family's Canyon Meadows home one week ago.
The teen's mother had reported her missing the day before her body was found hidden in a bed.
Rietze had been taken away from the home by ambulance just hours earlier.
Brittney's biological father, Terry McInnes, along with other family members and friends attended Rietze's court appearance.
When the accused appeared on the television screen inside the third floor courtroom they all held hands and watched intently.
Duty Counsel represented Rietze and the matter was dealt with quickly.
Outside court Terry McInnes spoke briefly with reporters as he made his way home saying he's hoping justice will be served and he says he's just waiting for the trial.
A funeral will be held for Brittney McInnes on Tuesday at the Lutheran Church of the Cross.
Rietze will be back in court on Friday.
