Occupational Health and Safety officials are investigating a fatal explosion in an industrial area northwest of Red Deer that took the life of a man on Thursday afternoon.
Emergency crews were called to J Moore Enterprises in the Burnt Lake Industrial Park at about 1:40 p.m. for reports of an explosion.
Police say a tanker truck exploded and scattered debris for about a block.
A 35-year-old man was killed in the blast and crews diverted traffic around the scene while firefighters contained and extinguished the fire.
No one else was injured in the incident and there was minimal damage to nearby buildings.
RCMP has notified the man’s family and is not releasing his name.
OHS officials are at the scene and are working to determine a cause for the explosion.
