Thousands of Calgarians took to the streets on Friday to take part in the traditional Way of the Cross, an event that represents Jesus Christ’s journey to Crucifixion.
The 30th annual gathering began in front of St. Mary’s Cathedral on Friday morning and then the procession wound its way through the Beltline for about two hours.
Those taking part stopped at 14 stations along the route where they could reflect on the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Edward Obligacion started the walk with his family 30 years ago and has been doing it every year since.
He says there were about 70 people involved when they first started.
Those numbers have gone up to 3,000 this year.
The event is organized by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Calgary.
