A Calgary wildlife organization is celebrating the successful release of an eagle taken into its care after being found injured.

The Calgary Wildlife Rehabilitation Society says the bald eagle was lying on its side at the Glenmore Reservoir. It was thin, dehydrated and had blood pooled under its beak.

Staff believe the eagle was injured during flight.

The eagle was cared for at the facility for a week before being released back into the wild on Dec. 28.

"Releasing this beautiful bald eagle as our final patient of 2024 is a poignant reminder of why we do what we do," said executive director Beki Hunt.

"All wildlife, large and small, will continue to require our help and commitment to rehabilitation and returning them to their natural habitats."

In 2024, Calgary Wildlife admitted just under 2,300 patients, logged more than 7,500 wildlife hotline calls, and delivered 135 wildlife education presentations
