Four months ago, flood water rushed into the community of Mission.
Now the water’s dried up, life is nearly back to normal and people came out to celebrate.
Dozens of businesses took part in the first annual 4th Street Block Party on Saturday to celebrate the resilience of Calgarians.
Some aren’t quite open for business, like restaurant Wurst, which is still weeks from re-opening.
It’s still undergoing major repairs and renovations.
"It's a great way to send the message that we're a community and we're strong and we're going to open up soon and we'll get through this. We're here, don't forget about us,” says Wurst general manager Chris Rosamond.
Area councillor John Mar says only 75 per cent of business in the area affected by the flood waters are up and running.
But he says the city’s committed to reminding Calgarians of the importance of shopping local.
"There are still businesses that are struggling. We're trying to promote that and get more
Calgarians to come down and show support for local businesses, especially esp here on 4th street.”
It’s estimated about four thousand people took part in the event.
