Saturday afternoon’s discovery of two bodies in a southeast home has resulted in a double homicide investigation by the Calgary Police Service
At approximately 1:00 p.m., emergency crews responded to a home in the 12200 block of Lake Erie Rd. S.E. following reports of a carbon monoxide leak. The bodies of 59-year-old Don Carlson and 56-year-old Roxanne Carlson were discovered inside the home.
“There’s no clear motive as to why this happened,” said Staff Sergeant Grant Miller of the Calgary Police Service Homicide Unit. “Our investigative team is investigating every though and every possibility at this time.”
“The call came in as a potential carbon monoxide poisoning. As a result of that, we had the Calgary Fire Department go through the house to determine what role carbon monoxide played. They were able to determine there were no issues with carbon monoxide inside the home.”
“The medical investigator was the first one to make the determination that this was suspicious in nature.”
Police have not released the cause of death.
Don and Roxanne Carlson had three adult children, one of which resided with them in their home.
According to police, a son of Don and Roxanne who did not live in the home was the person who located the bodies and made the initial call to 911.
The Carlsons had no previous encounters with police and Staff Sergeant Miller says the couple were well respected residents of a very nice neighbourhood.
Family of the Carlsons have released the following statement:
"We are shocked and devastated by the sudden loss of our parents Don and Roxanne Carlson. Both were loving parents and will be terribly missed by all those who knew and loved them. Our parents were wonderful and well-respected people, known for their love of family, involvement in their community, and their professional accomplishments. Full obituaries will be available through McInnis & Holloway funeral home in the coming days. While we understand media and public interest, we ask for privacy for our family during this very difficult time."
"If anyone feels they have any relevant information we would ask them to please contact Calgary Police Services."
The Carlsons were last seen alive at approximately 9:30 p.m. on the evening of Friday, February 14, 2014.
Don Carlson was a manager at Albern Coin & Foreign Exchange on Centre St. N. for more than 20 years.
