Calgary police investigate fatal crash on Crowchild Trail

Share

One person was killed in a crash on northbound Crowchild Trail early Friday morning.

The single-vehicle collision happened near 23 Avenue N.W. at around 2:15 a.m.

Police say the silver Kia SUV jumped the median and hit a cement pillar from the pedestrian bridge that runs from McMahon Stadium to the CTrain.

The vehicle was heavily damaged; the hood crushed and the windows smashed.

The driver was the lone person in the vehicle at the time.

The collision caused the closure of northbound Crowchild Trail between 16 Avenue and 24 Avenue N.W.

Banff Trail was also closed between 16 Avenue and Crowchild Trail N.W.

Police say it’s too early to know if speed and alcohol were factors.
