Geoff Fry is currently a fixture at the Pinebrook Golf and Country Club but soon the 18-year-old will be taking his game to the Bayou State.
The teen has been involved with the game from a young age. The sport is a fixture in Fry’s life with his family owning the Fox Hollow golf club and his dad, Greg Griffith, a CPGA head professional
“It was better when I used to beat him all the time,” says Griffith. “Now I have to play quite well to beat him so that makes me proud.”
“I really enjoy the fact that it’s a challenge every single day,” says Fry. “It’s really challenging to stay as good as you can possibly get.”
Now, the 18-year-old is one step closer to his goal of playing in an NCAA Championship.
After sending his recruiting video to a number of U.S. colleges, Fry received replies from several suitors. In the end, Geoff chose McNeese State University in Louisiana.
“I just think it’s the best opportunity for me to keep getting better for golf,” says Fry. “The academics at McNeese are pretty good. I'm going to be studying business there so I'm excited for that.”
Geoff's put the work in to secure his college opportunity and being a high school student at Edge School for Athletes has also helped.
“They (the Edge School) are really understanding when I'm travelling to these tournaments down south during the winter. It’s been really good because all the teachers have been very understanding about schoolwork and they're really flexible. It’s been good and my marks have stayed good at Edge.”
Geoff Fry is the CTV Athlete of the Week sponsored by Big Chef Beef Jerky.
