Two men from the Stoney Nakoda First Nation are facing 27 combined charges, following an alleged armed robbery and vehicle theft days after they were released from prison.

Cochrane RCMP said its crime reduction unit was monitoring two prolific offenders in December when they committed an armed robbery.

One offender was found in a stolen vehicle and fled from police on the Stoney Nakoda First Nation.

Police tracked the offender to a home in Calgary where he was arrested without incident.

Later in December, RCMP said it responded to a break-and-enter where a different offender fled in a stolen vehicle.

During a later chase on foot, the man used bear spray on an officer but was later apprehended with help from police dogs.

RCMP said the officer was not injured.

Following the investigation, police recovered a stolen shotgun and four stolen vehicles.

The two men, aged 26 and 28, are facing 27 charges in total related to robbery with a firearm and motor vehicle theft.

Both offenders were remanded into custody and are awaiting their court appearances.
