A 23-year-old man is facing a number of charges in connection to an officer-involved shooting in the city’s southwest on Sunday.
Police were called to Stanley Park at about 3:40 p.m. after someone reported seeing a man with a firearm.
When officers arrived they spotted a man wandering around in the trees with what looked like a handgun.
Police cleared the area and tried to talk to the man but he walked away into the park.
Officers confronted the man and say he produced a handgun, which resulted in an officer discharging a service weapon.
The man fled the scene and eventually surrendered to police.
No one was hurt in the incident and the man was taken into custody.
The gun was seized and determined to be a replica antique handgun.
Richard James Wolfchild, 23, is charged with one count each of assault with a weapon, assaulting a peace officer, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and obstruction.
Wolfchild is expected to appear in court on the charges on Wednesday.
ASIRT has been called in to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and is asking anyone who was in Stanley Park shortly after 3:40 p.m. on Sunday and who may have seen the confrontations between the police and the man to contact them at 403-592-4306.
