Progress continues on Calgary’s new Central Library, as the designers have been chosen to build the new facility.
Initial plans say the building will occupy nearly 26,000 square metres, including public space.
Another 4,000 square metres have been earmarked for future expansion.
But the design isn’t without its challenges, which include having to build around the existing CTrain line.
The new facility will be about 66 percent larger than the old library.
The Calgary Municipal Land Corporation is using its community revitalization levy to fund an addition $70M toward the project’s total cost of $245M.
