Investigators are still looking for clues that could lead them to the arrest of several armed offenders who broke into a southeast home early Friday morning.

Police were called to a home in the 500 block of 68 St. N.E. at about 4:45 a.m.

They say that several offenders, armed with various weapons, broke in.

A man, a woman, and two children were inside the home at the time.

A family dog attempted to defend the occupants of the home but was killed.

Police don’t have many details on how the animal died, but it may have bitten one of more of the suspects during the incident.

Nancy Bickerstaffe, a neighbour, says she say a black truck in the alley about 12 hours before the incident.

A man and a woman got out and began hammering on the door. "Just pounding - I mean, just pounding on it and I stood there and I wondered why is he pounding?"

She says the couple left but the truck returned after dark.

Residents in the area are getting nervous because this is the second home invasion in as many days in the area.

On Thursday morning, four people broke into a home just a few blocks away.

In that incident, one man was stabbed and left seriously injured.

Police say that units with the Robbery Section are taking the lead, but suspect that gang activity may be involved.

They ask that anyone with information on anyone suffering from unexplained dog bites or any information about this particular incident should contact police at 403-266-1234 or contact Crime Stoppers anonymously using any of the following methods:
