The family of Shannon Madill-Burgess, a Calgary woman who was found murdered last week, released a statement on Monday night, thanking the public for their support.
Madill-Burgess' body was found at the home she shared with her husband Joshua Burgess, located in the 1900 block of Spiller Road S.E.
Joshua has been charged with second degree murder in connection with the actress-comedian's death.
Her family released the following statement on Monday night:
We are thankful for all of the love and support we are receiving from the community, though are obviously devastated by this tragedy.
Shannon was a sweet, quirky, loving, passionate, generous soul. She was so funny and creative. Not only did she enjoy life to the fullest, but she was able to show you how to come along on that journey. She did as much volunteer work as she could fit in and donated to the blood bank, SPCA, and children in need. She was fearless and savoured life which makes her absence more tragic.
We are relieved that Shannon has been found and are choosing to not speculate as are waiting for more answers.
We are currently planning a celebration of life that will take place later in the summer. We would love to have those that cared about her attend if they can and will make sure to make those details available once they are finalized.
At this point we have no additional information than what has already been made public. Please respect that we would like some time to heal as a family and have no further comment at this time.
In November 2014, Shannon, 25, went missing after she was supposed to meet her brother at StageWest.
Her disappearance was reported to police a day later.
A month after her disappearance, her family, along with Joshua Burgess, made a public appeal for information about her whereabouts.
Initially, police say that Joshua was cooperative with their investigation and an initial search of the couple's home turned up no sign of her.
It was only when new information came to light that they were able to proceed with the charges against Joshua Burgess, police said on Sunday.
He appeared briefly in court on July 6, but the matter was put over until July 30.
A celebration of Shannon's life is expected later on this summer.
