A conference, featuring leading experts on gang violence, will be kicking off in Alberta’s capital on Tuesday to discuss the issues related to organized crime.

The gathering, made up of more than 500 delegates, is hosted by Alberta’s Law Enforcement Response Team (ALERT) and will feature speakers from Canada and the United States.

"This conference provides law enforcement and government agencies a forum to discuss challenges and best practices in the investigation and prosecution of organized crime cases,” said ALERT Inspector Gerry Francois in a release. “We’re dealing with a type of crime that crosses jurisdictions so it is important for the provinces to come together and share information.”

Jonathan Denis, Alberta’s Solicitor General, says that the meeting is critical to promoting safe communities. “It is a way to effectively address the risks posed by gang and organized crime.”

Over the next three days, participants will be sharing information and explore current trends related to gang activity and organized crime.
