The Good Friday death of a Calgary woman in the city’s northeast has the husband of the deceased facing a charge of first-degree murder.

Police responded to the 200 block of Templegreen Drive N.E. on Friday morning after the lifeless body of a woman was discovered near an apartment building.

According to police, the married couple was travelling in a vehicle when an altercation occurred.  The woman attempted to leave the moving vehicle and became entangled in the seatbelt.  She was dragged for a significant distance before the driver stopped the vehicle.

The injured woman ran towards an apartment building with her husband chasing her on foot. A physical altercation occurred and the man fled the scene.  The husband arrived at a nearby hospital a short time later.

Gagandeep Sidhu, 30, of Calgary, faces a charge of first-degree murder and will appear in court on Tuesday, April 2, 2013.

An autopsy into the cause of the death of Sidhu’s wife, whose name has not been released, is scheduled for Monday, April 1, 2013.

Police have notified the next of kin.
