The man wanted for attempted murder in the shooting of a woman outside a Martindale home on Monday morning has turned himself in to police.

Nihad Abdullah Ibrahim walked into the District 5 office at about 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday and was arrested without incident.

A Canada-wide warrant was issued for Ibrahim, 52, on Monday.

He was wanted in connection with the shooting of his 58-year-old common-law wife on the front lawn of her Martindale home.

Neighbours in the 600 block of Martindale Blvd. N.E. called 911 early Monday morning when they heard multiple gunshots and yelling.

When police arrived, they found the woman suffering from wounds to her stomach and legs.

She was taken to hospital in stable condition.

Ibrahim is already facing charges of domestic assault from earlier in the month and was expected in court on Tuesday on those charges.

He was released on bail at that time and had conditions placed on his release that included a weapons prohibition and no-contact order.

“I can tell you, CPS responded on the 7th of August where we entered into an investigation of common assault. Subsequently, he was arrested, brought before a justice of the peace and he was released on a recognizance. Part of that release he was not supposed to contact the victim or go back to that home,” says Duty Insp. Jim Leung.

Ibrahim is charged with:

  • attempted murder
  • aggravated assault
  • discharging a firearm with intent
  • pointing a firearm
  • assault with a weapon
  • break and enter
  • possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • five counts of failing to comply

Police are still looking for the gun and are searching the neighbourhood.
