Several events will take place around the city to ring in the new year.

One of the biggest celebrations will be in Olympic Plaza. Free skating is being offered, and people took advantage early in the day. There will also be ice carving demonstrations, music and of course, fireworks.

For a more adult-themed evening, you can check out Bar-C which features a cocktail lounge, midnight snacks and an outdoor winter lounge.

Zoo Year’s Eve is back this year, though you have to already have tickets for the sold-out event.

There is a Hollywood themed mixer for singles at Arts Commons, and an ultimate cowboy rodeo at Stampede Park.

"We've managed to attract the ultimate cowboy rodeo and what this is a competition where every single cowboy does every single event,” said Bonni Clark of the Calgary Stampede.

In Belgium and Moscow, terrorist threats have forced the cancellation of normal celebrations.

In Calgary, security will be present but nothing out of the ordinary.

"I wouldn't say that we've increased we always make sure we have the right amount of support and security to make sure it's a safe event," said Teresa Byrne with the city.

After the party is over, make sure you get home safely.

CTrains will be running every 15 minutes with the last CTrain leaving downtown at 3 a.m. Major bus routes will also run until 3 a.m. Regular fares still apply.

The fun continues on New Year’s Day with the city will play the movie Inside Out at Olympic Plaza at 5 p.m.
