Police are at the scene of a crash involving a pedestrian in southeast Calgary, and say the patient has been taken to hospital.

At around 6:50 a.m., police were called to the intersection of 52 Street and 110 Avenue S.E. for reports of a pedestrian, a man in his late teens, being hit by a vehicle.

It's still unclear what led up to the incident or if the pedestrian was in the crosswalk at the time they were hit.

The young man was rushed to hospital in potentially life-threatening condition, but their condition has since been upgraded to serious, but stable.

Adam Loria with Calgary EMS says the man suffered serious traumatic and internal injuries as a result.

Police had to shut down the southbound lanes of 52 Street for a short period of time following the crash.

The investigation is ongoing.
