Calgary police continue to investigate Thursday's discovery of a body in the backyard of a home in Whitehorn.

On Friday afternoon following the release of an autopsy conducted by the Medical Examiner, CPS officials identified the deceased as 31-year-old Dawns Echoes Baptiste of Calgary. The cause of Baptiste's death has not been released.

Police are asking for public help in identifying Baptiste's activities in the weeks prior to her death and have released a photo of the homicide victim.

Baptiste is described as:

  • Aboriginal
  • 165 cm (5'5") tall
  • 61 kg (135 lbs)
  • Having a medium build
  • Brown hair with blond highlights

At the time of her death, Baptiste was wearing a red hooded winter jacket, black sweatpants and tan coloured work boots.

Officers were called to the 0-100 block of Whitworth Road N.E. on Thursday afternoon, just after 3 p.m., after someone called 911. When they got there, they found the body of a woman outside a home.

Police also have no information on a motive or what sort of weapon, if any, was used.

"Right now, it's very early in the investigation," says Staff Sergeant Colin Chisholm with the CPS Homicide Unit.

Police have been canvassing the neighbourhood in an effort to learn more. They’ve also spoken at length with the person who initially called 911. So far, they have no suspects.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call police or Crime Stoppers.
