The polls are now closed and the counting begins in four Alberta byelections and candidates are waiting with their supporters to find out the results.
The race has been a hot one in the contested ridings of Calgary-Foothills and Calgary-Elbow.
In Calgary-Foothills, Premier Jim Prentice is fighting to gain himself a seat in the provincial legislature against Wildrose candidate Kathy Macdonald.
In Calgary-Elbow, allegations of crass politics have been flying between the Education Minister Gordon Dirks and the other candidates in the riding.
Dirks announced Friday that he had approved modular classroom units for a school in the riding that was low on the priority list for receiving such support.
The Alberta Party has even asked the Ethics Commissioner to rule on Dirks’ actions.
Other battles include a wide open battle in Calgary-West and Health Minister Stephen Mandel running to succeed former Premier Dave Hancock in Edmonton-Whitemud.
The polls opened at 9 a.m. and closed at 8 p.m.
