Randall Hopley, a convicted kidnapper and child sex offender, is expected to be sentenced this month for his part in the kidnapping of a three-year-old boy from Sparwood, B.C in 2011.
48-year-old Hopley kidnapped a three-year-old boy from his Sparwood home, but ended up returning the boy three days later, unharmed.
Prosecutors are seeking two options in terms of a sentence.
They want him declared a dangerous offender and locked up indefinitely.
If they don’t get that, they’re seeking an eight year sentence for the kidnapping.
Hopley’s lawyer says the sentence should be limited to two years because the boy wasn’t harmed.
Hopley has a long history of pedophilia and police did find sexual paraphernalia inside the cabin that suggested he intended to molest the boy.
