Those who live in Southern Alberta are used to a sudden sway in the weather and most were not surprised by snow just a few weeks into September.
Environment Canada issued a snowfall warning for several areas in Alberta on Monday, including the City of Calgary.
The weather agency says these areas will see about 5 cm of snow by Monday night and greater accumulations are possible in some areas especially those at higher elevations.
The city will get between 5 and 10 cm of precipitation in the form of rain and snow depending on surface temperatures.
Last year, the first snowfall came on October 27th and in 2012 it was on October 20th.
The record for snowcall in the City of Calgary, for September 8th, was almost 12 cm and was set in 1921.
Motorists on Alberta highways are reminded to prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions and that visibility could be reduced at times in heavy snow.
