The tourism industry is gearing up for the summer season and Travel Alberta has been hosting a series of town halls with its partners to help them grow their businesses.

Tourism Alberta and Alberta Culture and Tourism have hosted the information sessions for a number of years so all the players can meet face-to-face to discuss strategies and share information.

The goal is to inspire travellers to visit here and the head of Travel Alberta says it's important for all Albertans to realize the role they play in promoting the province.

“You become that tour guide, you become that advocate, you become that wealth of information,” said Royce Chwin, CEO Travel Alberta. “Say, hey there’s a great amount of things to do, you need to come and visit and you need to come and visit now.”

Participants in the information sessions are learning about:

  • How to develop tourism experiences
  • The importance of content marketing and social media
  • Coaching and Cooperative Marketing Investment program
  • Educational opportunities and events
  • Digital channels
  • The new Alberta Tourism Information System (ATIS)
  • Product development, research and tourism services

“I’m looking for some answers to some research questions that I have, these people, of course, have resources, that we don’t, to look into things for us,” said Peg Ainsley with Rocky Mountain Wheelchair Tours. “I want some more details about the new online system, ATIS, because I’m new to registering on there and just getting to know people who can help us along the way is a great thing for my particular job.”

“I’m always very interested in seeing where we’re going from a digital perspective because it’s the future of how we get visitor information and information about our province out and Travel Alberta always does a great job of leading the rest of us into the space we need to go,” said Cindy Ady, CEO Tourism Calgary

Tourism in Alberta is an $8 billion industry and it supports about 127,000 jobs.
