Alberta RCMP issued a traffic advisory early Sunday morning due to poor driving conditions throughout the province.

On social media, @RCMP Alberta posted that “South of Calgary, freezing rain is causing extremely poor road conditions.

“North of Red Deer,” it added, “thick fog is reducing visibility.

“Avoid travel, check Alberta 511 for current conditions.”

Brooks and Bassano

At 10:40 a.m. Brooks RCMP issued a statement about hazardous driving conditions in the area.

"Brooks RCMP is currently responding to multiple motor vehicle collisions on Highway 1 between Brooks and Bassano," it said. "Icy patches are leading to poor driving conditions and are causing multiple vehicles to drive off the road.

"Motorists are asked to avoid travel in the area," it added, "and ensure they check Alberta 511 for the most up-to-date highway conditions and plan accordingly."

Environment and Climate Change Canada said in an 11:25 p.m. post Saturday night that a freezing rain warning is in effect for south central and southeast Alberta.
