Traffic was rerouted from Crowchild Trail and several roads were closed in the southwest community of Scarboro as police responded to reports of an armed man.
Northbound and southbound lanes of Crowchild Trail were closed between Bow Trail and 17 Ave S.W.
Parents of students who attend Sunalta School say their children and the school's staff remained inside the building during the investigation.
“When we heard that they were in lockdown, I called the school and talked to one of the employees,” said Tracey Ross-Kretschmer, who was on her way to pick up her two children when she heard of the police presence. “She said that they were all fine and they were all following procedures, they just had a lockdown practice run a few weeks ago.”
Ross-Kretschmer says the only students in the school were those enrolled in the after school program and she believes there were approximately 20 children in the building.
According to officials with the Calgary Police Service, the original weapons complaint was received at approximately 4:00 p.m.
Shorly after 6:00 p.m., police declared the investigation had been resolved without incident and all road closures had ended. No suspects were apprehended in connection to the call.
