The Edmonton Oil Kings came roaring out of the gate Saturday night against the Lethbridge Hurricanes, building a 2-0 first-period lead en route to a 5-2 win.

It gave the Oil Kings two straight against the Hurricanes after beating them 7-3 Friday night.

The Hurricanes got back Leo Braillard and Brayden Yager from the World Juniors, but it didn’t help much in the first period, when they were outshot by the Oil Kings 16-3.

Luke Powell and Lukas Sawchyn scored to make it 2-0 after one period, then padded that to 3-0 a little more than a minute into the second when Landon Hanson scored.

The Hurricanes cut the lead to 3-1 when Braillard scored his 13th of the season at 7:54, then pulled to 3-2 when Yager scored his 13th on a five-on-three power play.

Late in the period, Gracyn Sawchyn scored to restore the Oil Kings’ two-goal lead, then added one more when Roan Woodward scored at 3:42 to make it 5-2.

Edmonton outshot Lethbridge 36-35, with Oil King Ethan Simcoe picking up the win.

Next up for both squads is a Sunday matinee at Rogers Place as they complete a three-games-in-three-days weekend.

Puck drop is scheduled for 4 p.m.
