A southern Alberta driver's creative excuse for travelling at 180 kilometres per hour didn't wash with the judge.

An unnamed 67-year-old driver was pulled over on Highway 22 near Black Diamond for speeding by RCMP in February.  When the officer stopped him, the man claimed he had just washed the car and the high speed jaunt was an attempt to dry his vehicle.

The case went to court on Monday, but clearly the explanation didn't make an impact on the verdict.  The driver received a 45 day licence suspension and an $800 fine.
