A charity aimed at supporting military families in Canada held a fundraising dinner in Calgary on Thursday night that drew some big support from the federal government.

Laureen Harper and Rona Ambrose were both in attendance raising money for the military charity “True Patriot Love”.

The organization funds programs to provide families with a wide variety of supports including assisting those with special needs children, to physical rehabilitation, and mental health research.

Harper says that they have a special requirement to help Canada’s military families. “You see them, you meet the families. It’s our duty to raise money and to also help their families.”

‘True Patriot Love’ was founded in 2009 and has raised more than $16M to assist veterans and their families.
