Recreational users are banned from the Glenmore Reservoir until further notice so crews can drop the water levels to accommodate the rainfall that is expected over the next few days.
Officials say lowering the water level is part of the city’s seasonal operations protocol for managing the reservoir and is asking people to stay off the water for their own safety.
They say water levels will be lowered to accommodate the flow from upstream of the dam in order to mitigate potential flooding.
The lower levels will make it difficult for boat patrols to launch a rescue if someone gets into trouble so officials are asking people to stay off of the water.
In addition, there is still an excessive amount of debris in the water which is creating hazardous conditions and the high turbidity makes it hard to see below the surface.
Officials say they will review conditions in the reservoir daily and will post updates on the Glenmore Reservoir webpage.
