Canmore RCMP have halted traffic on Highway 1A in both directions following an afternoon collision involving a motorcycle and a tour bus.
The crash occurred at approximately 3:30 p.m. at a location approximately three kilometres east of the town of Canmore near Gap Lake.
According to EMS spokesperson Stuart Brideaux, an EMS crew from Canmore responded to the scene and located a severely injured motorcyclist. The crew attended to the injured man, a 61-year-old, while additional resources, including a STARS Air Ambulance, was deployed.
The man's condition quickly deteriorated and he succumbed to his injuries at the crash scene.
No other injuries have been reported.
Highway 1A is expected to stay closed for several hours and motorists are advised to use alternate routes.
