A lane of a busy thoroughfare on the west side of Stampede Park may become one of the city’s largest taxi stands in an attempt to help Stampede goers secure a coveted cab.

A proposed idea by the City of Calgary would see the curb lane of Macleod Trail along the Victoria Park LRT station transformed into a taxi stand for the ten days of the Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth.

Cab drivers say the lack of available taxis at Stampede time is a cause of frustration for thousands of visitors and the drivers themselves bear the brunt of the abuse once a customer finally locates a cab.

The taxi limousine advisory committee is set to vote on the Macleod Trail cab line proposal on Friday.
