Calgary non-profit Yes Youth Centre hands out hundreds of free turkeys in Forest Lawn
Turkeys were flying out the door at the “Yes Youth Centre” in Forest Lawn Friday morning.
People lined up to get a free turkey from the charity as part of its Gift of Hope campaign.
Around 250 donated turkeys and bags of non-perishable items were provided to Calgarians in need.
For those at the end of the line who may not have gotten a turkey Friday, one will be provided later.
Organizers were grateful for support by donors, especially average citizens who just wanted to help.
Hundreds of turkeys were donated by Calgary residents and businesses for YYC turkey giveaway on Friday
“One of the seniors, his name is Ray, he literally took a taxi (to) go all the way to Co-Op, bought two turkeys, (then) took another taxi just to come deliver it," said Gar Gar, one of the event organizers.
"And (then) he said, ‘I don’t have much to give, but I will definitely give two turkeys out of my seniors money."
This is the fourth food drive the charity has done this year.
