Three people are recovering in hospital after an explosion in a garage in the community of Monterey Park on Tuesday afternoon.

The explosion happened just after 2:00 p.m. at a home on Los Alamos Place N.E.

The garage door was crumpled and windows were blown out by the blast.

'There is some damage to the windows and if you take a look at the garage door, you'll see that it's bowed out so there was quite a force in the explosion," said Carol Henke, CFD Public Information Officer.

EMS says two men and a woman found their own way to the Peter Lougheed Centre and were then transferred to Foothills Medical Centre by EMS.

All three adults are in serious condition.

The home was assessed by the fire department's Heavy Rescue Team and it was determined that the structural integrity of the home was not compromised.

Police and fire investigators are looking into the cause of the explosion.
