A Calgary judge has decided that statements made in a recorded confession to an undercover police officer by the couple accused of killing six-year-old Meika Jordan will be admitted into evidence.

Police were called to a home on Temple Drive N.E. on November 13, 2011 for reports of an injured child.

Meika Jordan was taken to hospital and later died from her injuries and an autopsy confirmed she died of blunt force trauma.

Meika was staying with her father, Spencer Lee Jordan, and his spouse, Marie Eve Magoon, in the days before her death and police determined that the little girl was in their custody at the time of her injuries.

Jordan and Magoon were originally charged with second-degree murder in Meika’s death but those charges were upgraded to first-degree murder in July 2013.

The pair claimed that Meika’s injuries were the result of a fall down the stairs and both pleaded not guilty to the charges.

During the trial, the Crown alleged that Meika was tortured for several days and that her injuries were not consistent with a fall down the stairs.

On Thursday, Justice Rosemary Nation ruled that confessions made by Jordan and Magoon to police during a Mr. Big sting operation would be allowed and that the operation pushed the accused to fill in the gaps of what happened to the little girl.

The couple admitted to an undercover officer, posing as a crime boss, to abusing Meika in the days before her death.

The prosecution wrapped up its case on Thursday afternoon and the defence says neither of the accused would be testifying in the trial.

Lawyers for Jordan and Magoon also say they will not be calling evidence in the case.

Final argument are expected to get underway on Monday.
