Fire crews were called out to a building downtown after bricks on the exterior came loose and Calgary police have closed part of 6th Avenue to traffic while engineers work to determine what is causing the problem.
Several bricks fell from the outside of a building at 608 7th Street S.W. at about 11:30 a.m. and crews evacuated people from the building as a precaution.
Police have closed 6 Avenue between 6th street and 7th street S.W. to traffic to give crews room to work.
The Plus 15 on 7th Street, between 6th and 7th Avenue is also closed.
There is visible evidence of damage and bulging on the east side of the building and firefighters have set up a safety perimeter to keep people back.
Officials say about 150 people were evacuated from over a dozen businesses and so far no injuries have been reported.
The Safety Response Unit is working to determine what happened and will decide when the building is safe for reentry.
"It's their safety response unit and professional engineer that are doing an assessment and until they're done their assessment we don't know what's caused this damage and how long it will be until people can perhaps go back in," said Carol Henke from the Calgary Fire Department.
Calgary Transit says the following routes have also been affected; 1, 2, 4, 6, 9, 10, 18, 112, 301 and 305.
Updates will be provided on Transit's twitter account.
