Visitors to the Calgary Zoo’s ENMAX Conservatory Garden Gallery will be in for a pleasant surprise in the coming months.
Officials say their first delivery of 130 chrysalises have arrived from Costa Rica, which represent 27 different species of butterflies.
Visitors to the building will be able to watch each stage of the lifecycle of the butterflies as they emerge.
By June, the facility will be filled with hundreds of the insects at any given time.
The Garden Gallery will also be transforming into a lush floral environment.
Also in the spring, the zoo will be welcoming komodo dragons and a number of one-horned rhinoceroses, which are considered to be highly endangered with only 3,000 left in the whole world.
