A Calgary couple charged with first degree murder in the death of their son has been denied bail and will remain in custody until their trial.

Rodica and Emil Radita were charged back in February after their son Alexandru died in their Citadel home of bacterial sepsis, brought on by neglect, starvation, and complications from Type 1 diabetes.

Officials say at his time of death Alex, who was 15 years old, weighed just 40 pounds.

Police say that he had seven healthy siblings, yet the conditions he was left in were deplorable.

Investigators say murder charges were laid because of the preventable nature of the death.
