The southwest leg of the ring road will begin construction shortly, but it already has a name.
The stretch of road will be called Tsuut’ina Trail, according to Chief Roy Whitney. The Tsuut’ina Nation agreed to a deal with the province to build that section of the ring road. The deal involved the transfer of land between the nation and the province plus a payment of $340.7 million to the nation.
Crews and equipment have been on-site since mid-July to do some preliminary work, construction is set to begin this fall and be completed in five years.
The road runs from Highway 8 to Macleod Trail S.E. and is about 21 kilometres long. It will be a six to eight lane divided highway featuring 14 interchanges, 49 bridges and two flyovers.
