The Calgary Public Library lost part of its collection in the floods and has now launched a campaign to raise funds to replace the hundreds of damaged books, CDs and DVDs.
The initiative is called “20,000 Books Under the Bow” and is a take on the Jules Verne classic “Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea”.
The campaign includes a book and T-shirt drive and organizers are hoping Calgarians will kick in 20,000 items which is a rough approximation of the number of items lost.
The city-wide book drive is on Saturday, July 27 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at all city libraries except the Central Library.
Calgarians are encouraged to bring gently used books, CDs and DVDs for donation. The items will be sold and turned into cash to restock the collection.
