The old Cecil Hotel in downtown Calgary is finally being demolished after being shut down in 2009.
The iconic neon sign was removed from the roof of the Cecil Hotel in August, and now the city is ready to finish the job of taking the building down as well.
The hotel was a notorious centre of crime and drugs for decades before the city finally boarded it up in 2009.
Mould covered the walls and toxic chemicals were saturated into the paint, all of which had to be removed before demolition could begin.
The job will begin at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, December 8, 2015. It will take five to seven days to complete and will include the removal of the abandoned beer store on the same parcel of land.
