After looking at the forecast over the next couple days, city officials are warning residents to keep off the Glenmore Reservoir.
This is to allow the water level to be dropped to accommodate the heavy rainfall, creating a heavy water flow from the Elbow River.
Residents are told to stay off the Reservoir until further notice.
The city says they’re doing this because the high flow periods make it impossible to launch rescue craft, so the City of Calgary Boat Patrol can’t respond to calls for assistance.
There is also a large amount of semi-submerged debris that can create hazardous conditions on the water. The city also says that the turbidity of the water is also very high, making it difficult to search underwater if necessary.
The Glenmore Reservoir is used for drinking water, flood control and downstream management, and recreational use for non-motorized boating.
The condition of the Reservoir will be monitored on a daily basis.
