Cooler temperatures to kick off 2025!

Share

The last day of the year was a below seasonal one for Calgary.  The city managed to reach a high of -7C earlier this afternoon, but if you are hoping for a warmer start to 2025, you’ll have to be a little patient.

Before we get to that though, let’s talk about New Year’s Eve!

For those planning to be outside tonight to take in the fireworks at Prince’s Island Park definitely layer up and have a warm hot chocolate handy!  By midnight the temperature in Calgary will be -12 C with a windchill making it feel more like -18 C!

New Year's Eve will be chilly in Calgary

Over the next several days cooler air from predominantly the northwest will influence our temperatures, keeping daytime highs in the minus teens until Sunday.

Flurries and light snow will also continue to fall for the duration of the week, with some areas accumulating like Lethbridge accumulating up to 10 centimetres of snow by Friday.

We finally see a break in this cold trend come Sunday where an upper ridge of high pressure will help temperatures get back up close to freezing during the day with more sunshine as well.

I hope everyone has a safe and happy New Year’s Eve and a great start to 2025!
