A video interview with the woman accused in the deaths of two of her newborn children was played in a Calgary courtroom on Tuesday.

Meredith Borowiec is charged with two counts of second-degree murder in connection with the deaths of two of her newborn children.

Borowiec was originally charged after leaving a third child in a northwest dumpster in October 2010.

The baby survived and an investigation was launched into her past which led to the second-degree murder charges.

On Monday, several witnesses took the stand including two police officers and emergency personal.

On Tuesday, court saw a recording of a hospital interview with the accused.

During the interview Borowiec was quite emotional and appeared to be concerned about what kind of legal trouble she was in.

She was adamant with the officer that she did not know she was pregnant and said she delivered the baby in her bathroom.

She went on to say that the baby was not moving or crying and she thought he was dead so she panicked and put him out with the household garbage. “I cut the cord and I put the baby outside."

When pressed about why she didn't call for an ambulance she said "I guess I just wanted it to go away.

The trial is expected to last for several more weeks.
