Some interesting items are being uncovered now that the water levels in the Bow and Elbow rivers are dropping and officials are warning recreational users to pay attention to hidden hazards.
On Saturday, a submerged truck was found by the fire department while on a routine patrol of the Bow.
Officials say that the truck doesn’t pose any immediate danger to the public or environment and that they will decide later in the week on the best way to remove the vehicle.
The truck is in a part of the river that is already considered closed.
The fire department had three boats out on Monday to make sure boaters and floaters were following the bylaws and staying safe.
They also had members at several launch sites to ensure everyone had the correct gear and were giving boaters advise on areas to avoid.
Crews from a number of city departments started a river clean-up program on August 30, 2013 to remove some of the debris that has accumulated from the floods at the end of June.
They hope to have the work done on the Elbow in the next few weeks but say the Bow cleanup will likely take until 2014 to complete.
The city is reminding people to be alert while using the rivers for recreation and to keep an eye out for hazards.
