The busiest line into downtown Calgary is back on track, after nearly two weeks since it was knocked out due to massive flooding.
City crews have been working around the clock to get the line in working order with the biggest problem being the mangled track due to the force of the flood waters.
The rails on the south line were lifted up in spots between Heritage and City Hall stations and the underground tunnels were filled with water, causing major electrical issues.
Early reports say that they wouldn’t have been able to get the track repairs finished until Friday, but the tireless efforts of crews shone through.
Even Mayor Nenshi was amazed that the work had been completed. “It’s amazing that we’ve been able to get that back up into service in such a short period of time.”
Several people riding the train on Wednesday morning say that while they were able to find alternate routes into the city when it was offline, they're happy to see it back.
The south line carries more than 110,000 people to work every day.
