George Canyon taking the stage at Calgary's newest outdoor country venue

Share

Juno Award winner George Canyon is among the country artists who will inaugurate a new outdoor concert venue this weekend at Spruce Meadows.

Canyon, Jess Moskaluke and Steven Lee Olsen will perform in conjunction with the National show jumping tournament.

The country star spoke with CTV News Calgary’s Ian White about the upcoming show.  Canyon’s performance will include a special tribute to first responders, something close to his heart.

Twice, first responders have saved the life of Canyon’s wife, Jennifer, including when she fell off her horse and crushed two vertebrae.

“My wife’s very strong,” said Canyon.

“With the horse reins in her hands, she crawled on her hands and knees and was found and was immediately rushed by ambulance.”

Before that incident, paramedics rushed Jennifer to hospital from High River to Calgary during complications with the birth of their son. Their son Kale is now 25.

Canyon also spoke about his budding interest in visual art.

“When I paint, I just let go and I let the spirit take over,” said Canyon.
