The provincial government is opening up shop in High River to assist residents of the flood ravaged town with the answering of flood relief questions and the submission of flood recovery funding applications.

Beginning August 12, 2013, High River’s Disaster Recovery Centre will be open to flood victims.  The centre is located at High River’s Welcome Centre and will be open Monday to Friday from 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.  The centre’s hours will be reevaluated depending on demand from residents.

“Our government had disaster recovery assistance staff on the ground in High River very quickly after the floods, and this center will provide an ongoing location where people can get the help and answers they need,” says Rick Fraser, Associate Minister of Regional Recovery and Reconstruction. “Government staff will be available to guide people through the application process step-by-step and provide specific advice and direction based on individual circumstances.”

In addition to in-person applications, flood victims may apply for disaster financial assistance by:

  • Downloading the application from Alberta.ca
  • Requesting an application by phone 1-88-671-1111

Applications may be mailed or faxed to the government, or submitted at the Disaster Recovery Centre.

All applications require:

  • A copy of government issued photo identification which includes an address
  • A copy of the most recent property tax assessment
  • A letter from insurance company indicating any assistance the company is providing
