Conservative Member of Parliament, Jason Kenney, says he will make "an important announcement" on Wednesday.

There have been rumours that the Calgary MP might try to unite Alberta's two right-leaning provincial parties – the Wildrose Party and PC Alberta.

Kenney spoke about the need to ‘unite the right’ at a recent event in Calgary but fell short of defining what his role would be.

“A lot of Albertans have urged me to play a role in bringing together free-enterprise Albertans in a united alternative so that we can get Alberta back on track,” said Kenney,“ but I also have a lot of friends across the country who’ve encouraged me to play a role in renewing the national Conservative party.”

While Kenney was not willing to commit to any defined role when he spoke last week, he did say he wanted to be involved.

“One way or another, I want to contribute to the project of uniting commonsense conservatives in Alberta,” said Kenney.

Some Progressive Conservatives have said they aren't keen to merge with the Wildrose Party. Meantime, the Wildrose has said it would be happy to unite, but only under its banner and only with its leader, Brian Jean.

The Tories will pick a new leader next March.
