The detective responsible for the investigation of Summer Hope's death took the stand on Wednesday.

Detective Theresa Garagan led the case in 2006 which resulted in manslaughter charges against Jonathon Hope and Lisa Geurin.

Garagan described the couple's home as being in disarray with various animal and cat feces in the apartment.

Sixteen-month-old Summer died of a methadone overdose.

On Wednesday, the court also saw a tapes interview in which Johnathon Hope was questioned by a social worker and police officer.

On the tape, Hope says his child might have accidentally eaten some Tylenol 3.

The trial continues on Thursday and the medical examiner is expected to take the stand.
